The NC-24C 3-Slot Midspan Chassis can be used in conjunction with either of the COBRA modular cards (NC-8POE or NC-4HP) to automatically provide additional power to a network cable for Power over Ethernet (PoE) devices such as an IP camera and is used when power is difficult or costly to access. The device acts as much like a “patch panel” and adds ~48 V DC to unused (non-data) wires in a standard Category 5 5e 6 or 6a Ethernet cable. The NC-24C provides power to the COBRA modular cards (NC-8POE or NC-4HP) over a single standard Ethernet cable to a PoE enabled End device designed to receive both Data and Power through its RJ45 connector.
The NC-24C is easy to maintain and its with hot swappable modules alterations can be made on the fly without disruption to the network.
Power over Etherne t and Midspan Explained
Reducing the cost of separate cabling a PoE camera can receive power and data over a single existing Category 5 or higher cable. A midspan device is much like a modular patch panel which adds power to the network cable and works in combination with existing Ethernet Switches. When a PoE device is added to the network its signature is recognised by the midspan which in turn provides power to the device and data communication passes through. For standard devices the midspan simply relays data to the Ethernet switch.
